Little rose, Rekha Samanmmale blossomed into the silver screen in 1989, with teledrama ‘Golu Hadawatha’ under the expert eyes/ guidance of Sir Lester James Peiris. Ever since, she found invitations flowing in for teledramas but she had to contain herself only to the teledrama ‘Nawalowaka Arunalu’ and over 50 newspaper and TV commercials, including ‘Knor Soup’, Surf Execel’, ‘Nestamalt’, ‘Horliks Biscuits’ ‘HNB’ and ‘Maliban Biscuit t and ‘Ole’ to name a few. During this period she was employed in a private sector Organization as an Assistant Accountant.
Having left the job, she started her second lease of life through Sanjaya Leelaratne’s ‘Tharuka’ and she has never looked back ever since featuring in teledramas ‘Pipi Pium’, ‘Adarayata Wesbenbda’ ‘Du Kumariyo (already screened) and ‘Hansa Geethya’ and ‘Peradiga Ahasa’ (yet to be screened). However, the role she became a ‘hit’ was her outstanding performance as ‘Madhavi’ in ‘Batti’ which became a household name overnight.
In recent times, Rekha played a role in famous stage drama ‘ Trojen Women’, directed by Dharmasiri Bandaranayake.
Currently, she runs her own salon, ‘Salon Rekha’ in Kelaniya her main ambition is to do characters with substance under the leadership of reputed directors.
